How should I take budesonide?
Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using budesonide and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. Take this medication by mouth with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters) unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Swallow this medication whole. Do not crush or chew.
Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects. If you are using the extended-release tablets, do not split the tablets unless they have a score line and your doctor or pharmacist tells you to do so. Swallow the whole or split tablet without crushing or chewing.
The dosage and length of treatment are based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and age.
Budesonide Dose
| One | The recommended dose for active Crohn's disease is 9 mg once daily in the morning for up to 8 weeks. |

| Three | The dose for maintenance of remission is 6 mg once daily for 3 months. |
| Four | The recommended dosage for the induction of remission in adult patients with active, mild to moderateulcerative colitis is one 9 mg extended release tablet to be taken once daily in the morning for up to 8 weeks. |
